How to do a direct connection for multiplayer on age of empires 2?
I have two computers, neither with internet, and I want to play age of empires 2 with my friend using a direct connection?
What do I need//is this possible?
Alright, you will need a crossover cable to first of all make a network between the computers. Plug one end of the cable into the correct port in the back of the PC , then do the same with the other end on the other pc. You will be able to tell which port is correct.
Then you will have to set up their ip addresses accordingly.
Go Control panel -> Network Connections
Right click Local Area connection and press properties.
Scroll down and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties.
In the FIRST computer type the following.
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Leave the rest blank.
On the SECOND computer type the following.
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.2
SUBNET MASK : 255.255.255.0
Leave the rest blank.
Disable the firewall on both computers by going.
Control Panel – Windows Firewall
Then select Off and press okay.
It says it is not reccomended, but you said they don’t have internet, so you don’t have anything to worry about.
Now we will Ping the other computer to make sure everything is working correctly.
Turn both computers on, and log in on both of them.
On one computer do the following.
Start menu – Run – type CMD
type Ping and then the ip address of the other computer.
So if you are using the first computer you would type.
Ping 192.168.0.2
You should get a reply.
Now finally open the game in both computers, (excuse me on this part because i dont own the game, so im having to give you a rough idea of what to do.)
Go multiplayer, and then create game and then you should be able to select “Online” or “LAN” somewhere, you would want to select LAN or Local or something like that.
If there is no option for that, dont worry.
Once the game is created on one of the computers, when you browse for a multiplayer game on the other computer it should show up. Double click and join and you should be set to go!
If it doesnt come up in the list, make sure you are not searching for online games, you want to be seaching for Lan or Local games. If that still fails then look for an option that says Connect to IP. Click it and type the IP address of the OTHER computer. So if you are on computer one, you would type 192.168.0.2
